Character for Kids (A)

Zenia Tompkins

This class will introduce students to the basics of body coordination, dance terminology, ballet positioning, and character dance foundations.  This class is designed to prepare students for any of EDS’ Beginner-level classes.

For children 3-5 years in age.  No previous dance training required.

 $360 per school year, to be paid in 3 installments of $120, due by September 1, December 1, and March 1.

No costume fees apply.

This class will introduce students to the basic dance styles and techniques of the peoples of Ukraine.  The class is designed to prepare students for EDS’ Intermediate-level Ukrainian class.  Class includes a character barre, center work, and the study of Ukrainian choreographies.

For students 6-10 years in age.  For 2009-2010 year, no previous dance training required.

$540 per school year, to be paid in 3 installments of $180, due by September 1, December 1, and March 1.

$100 annual costume fee due either in full by October 1, or in two     installments of $50 on October 1 and February 1.

 Beginner Ukrainian (B)

This class will introduce students to the basic dance styles and techniques of the peoples of Ukraine.  The class is designed to prepare students for EDS’ Intermediate-level Ukrainian class.  Class includes a character barre, center work, and the study of Ukrainian choreographies.

For students 6-10 years in age.  For 2009-2010 year, no previous dance training required.

Intermediate Ukrainian

This class will continue students’ mastery of dance styles and techniques of the peoples of Ukraine, and will begin to introduce the dance styles of non-Ukrainian peoples who reside in Ukraine, to include the Crimean Tartars.  The class is designed to prepare students for eventual membership in the Eurasia Dance Ensemble.  Class includes a character barre, center work, and the study of more intricate and diverse Ukrainian choreographies.

For students 11-15 years in age.  Three years of previous dance training or Artistic Director’s permission required.

$540 per school year, to be paid in 3 installments of $180, due by September 1, December 1, and March 1.

$100 annual costume fee due either in full by October 1, or in two installments of $50 on October 1 and February 1.

The rehearsal of the Eurasia Dance Ensemble is closed to the general public.  Dancers considering auditioning for the Ensemble must receive permission from the Artistic or Executive Director to attend.  The Ensemble will occasionally hold open rehearsals that students of the EDS School are invited to observe.  Please visit EDS’ Events Calendar for a list of these dates.

Advanced Character

This class is designed to prepare the advanced dancer with no previous training in Eurasian dance styles for membership in the Eurasia Dance Ensemble.  The emphasis for the 2009-10 school year will be on styles of dance native to the peoples of Ukraine and Russia, to include the Roma and Crimean Tartars.  Class includes a character barre, center work, and the study of new choreographies.  Dancers with extensive training in Eastern European dance are invited to continue their study of Eurasian dance techniques and styles.

Requirements   

For students at least 16 years in age and adults.  Five years of previous dance training or Artistic Director’s permission required.

Advanced Character Warm-Up (NYC)

This class is designed primarily as a warm-up and technique session for performing members of the Eurasia Dance Ensemble, but is open to other senior dancers who are either new to traditional forms of Eurasian dance or are interested in continuing their study of Eurasian dance technique.  Class includes a character barre and center warm-up.

Requirements   .

For students at least 16 years in age and adults.  Fiveyears of previous dance training or Artistic Director’s permission required.

$360 per school year, to be paid in 3 installments of $120, due by September 1, December 1, and March 1.
